Drastically increases registration fees for EVs, Hybrids, and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. The intent here is to cover for the road fees recoveredy via the "gas tax". However, these fees don't make a dent in the problem and are punitive in nature. This bill takes us back to 2018 SB 136 and increases the fees beginning in 2022 that were phased in over a 3-year period and "capped" at a certain amount per type of vehicle in 2021. The proposed fee increases in this new bill are as follows:
For EVs:
- $300 beginning January 1, 2022.
For Hybrids:
- $50 beginning January 1, 2022
For Plug-in Hybrids:
- $260 beginning January 1, 2022
For any other vehicle not fueled by fossil fues (gasoline, diesel, natural gas, or propane)
- $300 beginning January 1, 2022
SB 136 from 2018 set the fees as:
For Electric Vehicles: 2019 $60; 2020 $90; 2021 $120.
For Plug In Hybrids: 2019 $26; 2020 $39; 2021 $52.
For Hybrids: 2019 $10; 2020 $15; 2021 $20.
